Backstory:
A mare running from her fears gave birth to a colt one peaceful night in a forest. They stayed there for the night, and the next day the colt was able to walk unsteadily. The mare encouraged him along, and they continued the journey that the mare had started at first alone. The two traveled through the forest for months, the mare set on getting to safety. Finally, they broke out of the tree line. Ahead they saw a towering mountain, and the mare set out with new purpose. Two days later, they reached the mountain and began a hard climb. When they reached the top of the mountain, they found a cave, in which they settled. The grass on the mountain was not the sweetest, but the mare found a safe place from whatever mysterious thing she was running from. In their months of travel, she had not named her colt, and still she did not. Many nights the foal would look at his mother in fear when hearing the sounds of mountain lions hunting, but she would assure him that they would always be alright. “We are alone together, my son,” she would say, “and we are safe.” When the colt was just one year old, the lions came into their cave and killed his mother. The colt fled the mountain, taking on the name “Alone Together.” He wandered far and wide, looking for a suitable place to settle and running from his past. He met a mare named Eva, and settled down in a valley many miles from the mountain where he had lived at the start of his life. Eva and Alone Together had a colt that they named Charles, and that was the start of the herd. Alone Together welcomes horses looking for a safe haven just as he was and his mother before him.
